BERLIN (Reuters) -Siemens has temporarily stopped deliveries of its new fast-speed ICE trains to rail operator Deutsche Bahn after finding defects in some components, the German conglomerate said on Thursday.

"Siemens Mobility is in close dialogue with Deutsche Bahn and the subcontractor and is working hard to resolve the issue," a spokesperson told Reuters.

The 21 out of 90 trains that have so far been delivered to Deutsche Bahn are not affected and can be used safely, added the spokesperson.

During quality assurance tests, Siemens had found defects in weld seams of components and is now working with Deutsche Bahn on a time frame for when the problem can be addressed.

"Siemens Mobility does not compromise on the quality and safety of its trains," said the spokesperson.

Bild daily had first reported on the halted deliveries.

Deutsche Bahn is under pressure to modernize its ageing rail network so Germany can meet its climate targets, with the government aiming to double rail passenger numbers and drive up the market share of rail freight traffic by 2030.
